A passion for preserving the world's temperate and coral reefs inspired seven-time ASP World Champion surfer Kelly Slater to create the Kelly Slater Invitational. This annual event benefits Reef Check, an organization committed to the preservation of the ocean's delicate "floorscape".

Unlike other formal organized surfing competitions, this event is designed to mix high-energy surfing with good times in the sun. The competition required Slater to invite some of the world's best surfers from the pro tour circuit to pair up with some of today's top entertainment personalities in a series of unpredictable contests.
